Simplify your Web Automation with Rotating Residential Proxies in Gaffa

Using AI, building web automations and scraping scripts is easier than ever. At least until your IP gets blocked. The less time you can spend dealing with multiple proxy providers and gnarly bot detection issues, the better, and that's where Gaffa comes in. We work with proxy providers like Massive to make rotating residential proxies simple. In this article, we'll show you why rotating proxies matter, how using them in Gaffa compares to integrating them into popular web automation libraries, and how you can get started quickly.

Why you need Rotating Residential Proxies

If you are currently scraping with datacenter IPs, you'll quickly notice you are getting blocked often. They're tied to cloud providers' IP ranges and many sites you'll be wanting to access block them by default.
Residential proxies fix this by routing your internet traffic through real devices; laptops, smartphones, or desktop computers using legitimate IP addresses assigned by ISPs. Because these IPs belong to real people, they appear much more trustworthy to websites and are less likely to trigger security mechanisms like CAPTCHAs or IP blocks.
Rotating residential proxies go one step further. Instead of using a single IP address for all traffic which can lead to being blocked quickly on larger scraping jobs, they automatically switch to a new residential IP for each request or at regular intervals. This routes your traffic through several different devices avoiding IP addresses taking a reputational hit from over use and keeps your scraping working smoothly.

The complexities of traditional proxy integrations

Using proxies with frameworks like Playwright or Selenium can be quite simple for a basic script but you'll soon find yourself having to write a lot of extra code to handle common scenarios like network outages, dropped connections and SSL errors.
Splitting traffic across multiple proxy providers means managing multiple billing relationships, auth systems, and APIs. More time spent on the boring stuff, less time getting the data you need. This can also reduce your volume with each individual provider, driving up costs. Some providers even share IP pools, so if you've integrated two that use overlapping ranges and those IPs go down, both integrations can fail. Joy!

Gaffa Makes Using Residential Proxies Effortless

With Gaffa's Browser Request API, using residential proxies is as simple as including a proxy_location parameter. We'll route your request through our proxy traffic management system, unlocking sites and making your automation much more stealthy without writing any custom logic or doing any configuration:
A Gaffa request using a UK proxy
You can pass a single ISO country code (e.g., 'us') for the country you wish your request to be routed through, see the UK example above. At the time of writing, we support five countries, and we're adding more all the time to give you broader geographic coverage, see Browser Requests → Proxy servers.
Behind this simple parameter, lies a mountain of complexity that Gaffa will handle for you. We only route requests through proxy IPs that are known to be working and free from SSL errors, sourced from industry leaders like Massive. Each new browser request uses a clean, independent IP so there's no need to manage pools or rotation logic yourself.

Why we partnered with Massive

We recently integrated Massive's residential proxy network to power Gaffa, providing fast and reliable performance across 190+ countries and it came with great latency, uptime, and customer support. We're also a fan of Massive's ethical IP acquisition strategy whereby all their users have agreed for their bandwidth to be used, unlike some providers. For more technical context, check Massive’s blog: What Is a Rotating Proxy?

By combining Gaffa's simplified automation API with Massive's high-performance proxy network, you get robust scraping from multiple locations without infrastructure headaches or IP blocks. Just add one parameter to your REST requests and you're ready to go. Ready to start? Sign up here.

Pricing
Residential proxy usage costs 1500 credits per GB of bandwidth. Credits cover both browser runtime and data volume. See full details here. We work with multiple providers and add more regularly. As your usage grows, you can benefit from reduced proxy pricing without worrying about bandwidth being split between multiple vendors.
Responsible scraping and compliance
Responsible automation and proxy use is really important to us. We regularly review account activity and scan for suspicious and abusive behaviour that could harm the product, our customers and our belief in a free and open web.
